Year End: Annual General Meeting; Acknowledgements; New Executive Team!

The outgoing Executive met in late March to review the past year and to look forward to the coming season. A new Executive was nominated, and the nominees have been confirmed.

A special note of thanks for the contributions of Allie B., who coordinated the Ensemble and loaned us her considerable expertise! Allie returns as the Internal Activities Manager.

The Ensemble is grateful for the outstanding service and talent of all our 2017-2018 Executive members, including:

James (Bass), Nic (Tenor), Tamara (Blue Manager/Alto), Emily (Secretary/Soprano) and Abby (Chorale Manager/Alto).

Well done team!

A special note of thanks to all the instrumentalists—Wisteria Quartet, UVJAZZ Stage Orchestra and Rhythm Section—for their dedication and skill. Furthermore, the Ensemble recognizes the outstanding contribution of Assistant Conductor Jenna Grossman for her excellent direction of the Jazz Chorale!

We look forward to many of this past year's members auditioning for the Ensemble in September. Come September, a manager for the Show Choir will be nominated. 

Auditions 2015

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble has successfully eased into its new curriculum, a curriculum developed over the past 5 years and implemented this year to accommodate, once again, all interested singers who want to register in Vocal Jazz as a large ensemble for credit.

The Wednesday Meet & Greet drew a crowd of some 78 interested singers from a wide variety of backgrounds. The Ensemble is open to students and participants from the wider local community.

An able audition team comprised of select senior members under the guidance of the Director conducted placement auditions for both a large group (up to 50 voices) and a smaller touring group of 16 voices that together constitute the UVic Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Auditions resulted in all singers who auditioned being accepted. The larger UVic Jazz Chorale numbers 35 voices and the UVJAZZ ensemble is, as mentioned, comprised of 16 voices (4 x SATB).

A special note of thanks to the Audition Team—Taylor, Micha, Natasha, Cody, Sophie, Kenji, Margaret and Nicholas—for their conscientious work and important contribution to the success of the Ensemble! Many thanks, also, to the other members of the executive who provided guidance to both the Audition Team and incoming singers!

Congratulations to all singers for their efforts and skill!

Congratulations to all who have been accepted into the Ensemble!

Thank you to all who auditioned! You all navigated some tricky excerpts with much success.

A very special 'thank you' to the Audition Team. This year's Team was comprised of mostly sophomore members. Well done Team:

Our new Ensemble Manager is Natasha. She has already begun to prove herself in terms of her dedication to task, her prompt and thorough organization, her keen eye for detail and creative input and enthusiasm. Thank you Natasha for taking the helm!
