UVic Vocal Jazz showcases are filled-to-capacity events that offer audiences the prospect of a thoroughly engaging and fun-filled musical experience. Our showcases celebrate the considerable dedication and achievement demonstrated by our singers both on stage in concert and off stage in rehearsals, as well as the considerable effort and skill demonstrated by technology operators drawn from within the Ensemble and from our technology program headed by Professor Kirk McNally.

The Showcase brand, formally established 12 years ago by the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, represents a legacy gifted to us by many talented performers from diverse backgrounds on campus. Our singers come from all departments, faculties and schools: Engineering; Theatre; Athletics; English; History; Psychology; Sociology; Anthropology; Law; Music; Computing Sciences; Chemistry; Astronomy; Geography; Biology; Math; Business—to name but a few of the University of Victoria's excellent departments.
The University of Victoria Vocal Jazz Ensemble achieves the much sought after ideal of diversity in unity/unity in diversity that both our academic community and wider society seek. Unity and diversity is the natural identity of the Ensemble. Individuals are mentored in developing their gifts and formed in collaborative encounter and performance through various approaches to learning and loving music. The people are the music; the music is the people. The testimonies of a few of our members capture the essence of our identity: click HERE to visit The UVic Vocal Jazz Experience page.
This blog represents but a tiny portion of the expertise and devotion that many people have contributed to our legacy of musical excellence.
The 2018 Spring Showcase includes alumnus Blake Palm (bass) with Gabe Lagos (piano) and Eric Emde (drums), whose high school and professional R&B ensembles have for decades achieved international acclaim.
